Clipping your birds wings helps to protects them from common household hazards that could result in serious injury or death.  Clipping also makes it easier to tame your bird and often makes a handfed bird even more social and affectionate.

Nail trimming should be included as a part of regular grooming.  If your bird’s nails are overgrown they may have difficulty perching.  This could also lead to serious injury if your bird becomes startled and catches a nail.  Aside from your bird’s safety and comfort, nail trimming can make handling your pet less painful and more enjoyable for yourself!

DNA sexing is most commonly used when attempting to pair two birds together.  Knowing the Gender of your bird may help you to better understand your pet's behaviour...  or perhaps you just want to know if you need to change your pet's name to better suit their gender!

At Feather Baby we use a very reliable lab to complete our DNA Gender Testing.  Results are quick and 99.9% accurate.  We travel right to your home for blood or feather collection from your bird. The sample is sent out to our lab the same day and the results are usually back in less than a week.  A certificate indicating the results will be issues shortly after.

Planning a trip, but you don't have a Critter Sitter?  At Feather Baby we will travel to your home to care for your pet while you are away. Our In-Home visits are convenient for you and your bird while avoiding a stressful transition to a boarding facility.  Each visit includes a check-up, 20 minutes of social time with your pet and fresh food and water.  Cage cleaning is also available.

For trips exceeding 7 days we highly recommend boarding your pet.  Please contact us to see if we can accommodate your boarding needs.

Hand-rearing is a huge responsibility and requires extensive knowledge, time, patience and commitment.

At Feather Baby, we are devoted to raising friendly and affectionate, well socialized pet birds.  Your chicks will be well cared for in the home of an experienced handfeeder.  The process often takes 7-10 weeks until the babies are fully weaned.  This service also includes wing clipping after the babies have learned to fly and a $12 discount on DNA Gender Testing (optional).
